Bangladeshi Vegetable Calf, Natural
This leather is a cheaper alternative to our normal Faircalf. It should be noted that there are drawbacks over the traditional New Zealand and Scandinavian calf in that the leather has a courser grain and, as Kip sides, tend to be long and narrow and therefore less suitable for larger bindings. The leather is initially tanned at source using white synthetic tannins. When the skins arrive in our Edinburgh Tannery, we remove the majority of this original tannage and then re-tan, using Tara or Sumac. The skins tend to be a little browner in cast compared to the Fair Calf.
- Average Skin Size: 0.80 - 0.90m² (8¾ - 9¾ ft²)
- Approx. Cut Size: 80 x 50cm
- Standard Substance: 0.8mm
- Grades: Run Selection (Equivalent to grade II)
